Post-conflict legal education

We served two communities affected by the armed conflict to empower their leaders to protect their human rights through citizen mechanisms. Specifically, we advised the Community Council and the Community Action Board of Villa Conto, a group of Afro-descendant leaders who are victims of the conflict located in the municipality of Río Quito, Chocó; as well as Las Tamboreras del Cauca, a group of women victims of forced displacement who, through music, are carrying out a process of reconciliation and memory. Within this project we carried out legal education workshops on topics that the community itself found to be a priority, such as legal protection of the environment, family law, human rights and property ownership. We also provide booklets on these topics to give them easy access tools to protect their rights in the future. Finally, we supported the two communities in bringing constitutional actions against current situations that violated their human rights.
